Lanka Premier League Finalises Squads After June 1 Player Draft

The picks show growing international reach, setting teams for the July 17–August 18 tournament in Colombo, Dambulla, Pallekele.

Overview

  • The five franchises completed the player draft on June 1 and used it to fill 97 roster slots and finalise squads of 18 to 20 players.
  • Colombo Kaps signed Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman as a platinum overseas pick while Jaffna Kings used the first selection on Sri Lankan batter Avishka Fernando.
  • Kandy Royals’ earlier pre-draft moves remained in place, including Vijay Shankar’s May withdrawal from Indian domestic cricket to accept a Kandy contract.
  • Franchises were required to pick at least one Associate Star and the draft mixed Platinum, Gold, Classic, Associate and Under-23 categories to balance overseas stars with local and emerging talent.
  • The tournament is scheduled for July 17 to August 18 across three Sri Lankan venues and the draft underlines the LPL’s growth since 2020 as a destination for established T20 players and Associate-nation talent.
