Lanes Reopen After Miami Signature Bridge Work-Zone Failure Injures Six Workers

  • City of Miami Fire Rescue responded around 10:20 p.m. Friday to the I-395 Signature Bridge site near 1490 NW 3rd Ave after a cap beam toppled during overnight work.
  • Six workers were thrown about 30 feet, with one trapped and extricated by the Technical Rescue Team before all were transported to Jackson Memorial’s Ryder Trauma Center.
  • Five patients are in critical condition and one is in serious condition, and officials reported no fatalities.
  • FDOT said the accident occurred within a controlled work zone away from live traffic and was not a bridge collapse or incident involving open roadways.
  • Eastbound SR-836 lanes were temporarily closed for emergency access, the scene has been cleared, all travel lanes are open, and FDOT and OSHA are leading the investigation.
