Overview

  • At least six people were reported dead in Darjeeling district after a landslide in Mirik, and officials cautioned the toll could rise as searches continue.

  • The India Meteorological Department kept red and orange alerts in force for North Bengal districts with heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast through Monday morning.
  • In parallel, heavy rains in eastern Nepal killed at least 22 people, left others missing, and cut roads, underscoring a wider Himalayan weather event.
