Overview

  • More than 50,000 cubic metres of mud and stones have blocked the New Haflong–Jatinga Lampur stretch, forcing suspension of train services on the LumdingBadarpur hill section since June 23.
  • Northeast Frontier Railway estimates that at least 30,000 cubic metres of debris must be removed before track restoration can begin and has deployed heavy machinery and manpower around the clock.
  • The National Highways Authority of India’s repair work triggered slope failure above National Highway 27, prompting the Dima Hasao district administration to suspend vehicular traffic between Haflong and Silchar under the Disaster Management Act.
  • NFR and NHAI officials are coordinating through on-site emergency meetings while senior railway officers are camping at the site to oversee debris clearance and slope stabilisation efforts.
  • The suspension has led to multiple train cancellations and short-terminations, isolating south Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur and disrupting passenger and freight movement.
