Landsberg County Council Votes 24–17 to Oppose Gas Drilling Near Ammersee

Citing risks to groundwater, the landscape, climate goals, agriculture and tourism, the council also ruled out providing county land for fossil projects.

Overview

  • The resolution rejects ongoing and future gas drilling across the entire district after a 24–17 vote.
  • The county will not sell, lease or grant easements on its land for fossil exploration or extraction and affirms a renewables-focused energy mix.
  • An exploratory well at Reichling in the Kinsau 1A concession reached about 3,400 meters and was completed without reported complications or environmental damage, according to the operator.
  • Technical and laboratory analyses of the well are still pending, though the company reported visible hydrocarbons and traces of oil in the drilling mud pits.
  • Environmental groups including Greenpeace and Bund Naturschutz praised the decision after sustained protests, and the motion was introduced by the CSU, Vereinigung Unabhängiger Bürger and the Greens.
