Lancaster Parents Convicted of Killing and Decapitating Two Children

Sentencing is set for Jan. 13 with prosecutors seeking life without parole.

Overview

  • A Superior Court jury found Maurice Jewel Taylor Sr., 39, and Natalie Sumiko Brothwell, 48, guilty of two counts of first-degree murder with a true finding on the special circumstance of multiple murders.
  • Jurors also convicted both defendants of two felony child-abuse counts after prosecutors said they forced their younger sons to view the bodies and kept them confined without food for several days.
  • The pair face life in state prison without the possibility of parole plus a consecutive term of six years and four months at sentencing.
  • Authorities discovered the victims days after the Nov. 29, 2020 killings when a reported gas leak and concerns from Taylor’s clients led responders to the Lancaster home.
  • Taylor was arrested on Dec. 4, 2020, after a competency pause was later lifted, and Brothwell was arrested in September 2021 in Tucson and returned to Los Angeles County.
