Overview

• On June 18, India Book of Records adjudicator Pramil Dwivedi formally acknowledged Lakhimpur Kheri’s achievement of building 1,030 community ponds between May 15 and June 15.
• The campaign was spearheaded by District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal and Chief Development Officer Abhishek Kumar under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
• The ponds spanned over 700 acres and were completed before the monsoon to maximize water harvesting and improve groundwater recharge.
• The initiative generated nearly 700,000 man-days of work during the lean agricultural season, with women accounting for over 30% of the workforce.
• Local panchayats and residents mobilized to transform the government programme into a people’s movement focused on ecological restoration and climate resilience.
