Overview
- On June 22 the female bear forced its way into a trailer at Eagle Point Campground and swiped at a camper, leaving her with cuts and bruises that required hospitalization
- DNA testing linked the bear to a series of break-ins at homes and vehicles along Cascade Road and repeated conflicts at Emerald Bay State Park since spring 2025
- After at least seven unsuccessful hazing or trapping attempts by CDFW, California State Parks and the U.S. Forest Service, a State Parks ranger located and euthanized the bear on June 23
- Wildlife officials captured the bear’s two five-month-old cubs and transported them to a Northern California rehabilitation facility with hopes they can be rewilded
- The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will continue monitoring the Lake Tahoe area to manage human-bear interactions and safeguard public safety
