Lake George Wildfire Still Out of Control, Size Revised to 150 Hectares

Overview

  • Officials refined the mapped area to about 150 hectares after an earlier estimate of roughly 300 hectares.
  • Evacuation orders continue near Kingswood Camp and Fox Mountain, with Aylesford Road and North River Road closures and a reception centre open at the Louis Millett Community Complex in New Minas.
  • Kings County lists 275 civic addresses under evacuation and 56 under advisory, about 55 evacuees registered, and up to roughly 330 properties identified as at risk.
  • Nova Scotia extended Northwest Territories water-bomber contracts to Oct. 10 and added aircraft from Quebec and New Brunswick, three helicopters, heavy equipment, and structural protection units from Brooklyn and Halifax.
  • The cause remains under investigation with no lightning reported, and crews say the fire has crossed Aylesford Road toward Lake George.
