Overview

  • Langdale Ambleside MRT carried out four callouts between June 27–28, rescuing two groups of 12 Duke of Edinburgh Award students near Bowfell and Grizedale Tarn, assisting campers at Coadale Tarn and treating an ankle injury at Garburn Pass.
  • Coniston MRT responded on June 29 to a Cumbria Police request, locating two walkers in treacherous weather near Bowfell and Esk Pike during a 3-hour 40-minute operation.
  • Teams battled heavy rain, low cloud and rugged fells that hampered communication, navigation and tent stability across multiple locations.
  • Collaboration among Langdale Ambleside, Kendal, Patterdale and Coniston teams alongside Cumbria Police and North West Ambulance Service proved key to swift coordination.
  • All casualties were returned safe and crews remain on standby as high visitor numbers and unpredictable conditions continue to test volunteer resources.
