Overview

• Deputies responded to a 911 call at about 8:30 p.m. on July 16 reporting a knife-wielding man threatening residents in an apartment on the 600 block of Washington Avenue in Lake Bluff.
• According to sheriff’s deputies, Diaz arrived intoxicated and allegedly slashed a 25-year-old woman’s hand and choked her during an argument with her roommate.
• Diaz fled the scene after the assault but returned around 12:45 a.m., pounding on the door and refusing to leave before deputies took him into custody.
• The woman sustained injuries that did not require medical attention, authorities said.
• The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is reviewing witness statements and 911 call recordings as part of its ongoing investigation.
