Lahore Police File 27-Point Basant Security Plan as Festival Returns Feb. 6–8

Police filed a 27-point plan with the Lahore High Court to regulate a limited Basant in Lahore.

Overview

  • Lahore will be divided into Red, Yellow and Green zones with round-the-clock monitoring by drones, control rooms and social media teams.
  • Only registered kites and approved cotton string will be allowed, with each kite and spool tracked by QR codes and a ban on glass, chemical and metallic lines.
  • Motorcycles without safety antennas will be barred from red zones, and helmets will be mandatory for riders and passengers.
  • The government will deploy 5,000 free rickshaws for transport support, and Quick Response Teams plus rescue, health and traffic services will remain on high alert.
  • Festivities are limited to Lahore from February 6 to 8 with rooftop and park venues operating under SOPs, while a Friday holiday is under consideration and a court challenge remains active.
