Laguna del Monte Boat Capsize Leaves Four Dead and One Missing

UFIJ N°3 has opened a judicial probe to determine how the boat overturned.

Overview

  • A small fishing boat carrying five men capsized in Laguna del Monte, Guaminí, and four bodies have been recovered so far while one occupant remains missing.
  • Rescue teams from Prefectura Naval, Policía Bonaerense, Bomberos Voluntarios and Defensa Civil led a large search-and-recovery operation that paused at night for lack of light and resumed at first light.
  • The four dead have been identified as José Domingo Carrizo, 84; Carlos Augusto Pérez, 71; José Luna, 70; and guide José Antonio Bianchi, 52.
  • Local authorities suspended all fishing in the Laguna del Monte area and prosecutors assigned the case to UFIJ N°3 of Trenque Lauquen under the label 'averiguación causales de muerte'.
  • Local reports say wind may have played a role in the overturn, but investigators have not confirmed a cause and the judicial inquiry will focus on how the capsize occurred.
