Lagoa Christmas Tree Returns to Rio, Lights Up After Five-Year Pause

Overview

• The floating structure at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas stands 60 meters tall with more than 20 kilometers of LED and neon lights.
• Opening night featured a free Orquestra Petrobras Sinfônica concert and fireworks, with Petrobras president Magda Chambriard pressing the lighting button.
• Access is free by advance reservation through GoDream, and opening-night tickets were reported sold out with the possibility of additional releases based on capacity.
• The tree will remain on nightly display through January 6, with lights on 19:00–00:00 Sunday–Thursday and 19:00–01:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, plus fairs, food trucks and children’s activities at Lagoon and Cantagalo.
• To curb hazardous stopping near Curva do Calombo, the city authorized 300 meters of metal panels on Avenida Epitácio Pessoa, and MetrôRio ran a special weekend operation with guidance to use General Osório/Ipanema station.
