Lager 157 Joins Limbecker Platz Reboot With 3,000 m² Store in Former Karstadt

A €30 million conversion is reshaping the closed department store into a multi-tenant lineup with openings from early 2026.

Overview

  • Union Investment confirmed the Swedish fashion brand will open at Limbecker Platz in early 2026 on about 3,000 square metres.
  • Peek & Cloppenburg is slated to take roughly 6,000 square metres and Intersport Voswinkel plans an expanded 2,000-square-metre store.
  • The redevelopment includes enlarging the façade by more than ten metres and consolidating several existing shop units.
  • Up to six tenants are expected to occupy the former Galeria Karstadt space, with further leases in advanced negotiations and more signings targeted by year-end.
  • Lager 157’s Essen site follows its 2024 German debut in Bremen, with additional openings planned in 2026 as the centre also adds concepts such as Miniso, Xiaomi, and new gastronomy brands.
