Sporting Kansas City's Erik Thommy equalized in the 60th minute, but the team ultimately fell short in extra time.
With this victory, LAFC has now won four major trophies, including the MLS Cup and Supporters' Shield.
Sporting Kansas City, despite their strong history in the Open Cup, will not qualify for the MLS postseason this year.
