Ladakh LG Wins Centre Assurance to Speed 24×7 Water, Housing and Renewable Projects

Khattar pledged support following confirmed AMRUT 2.0 tranche releases for projects addressing a worsening groundwater crunch.

Overview

  • Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta met Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on August 19 to review priority urban and power initiatives for Ladakh.
  • Two round-the-clock water supply schemes for Leh and Kargil, costing Rs 334.72 crore and Rs 373.17 crore, have SHPSC approval and 12th Apex Committee clearance under AMRUT 2.0.
  • The projects are included in the State Water Action Plan with committed Central Assistance of Rs 62 crore within a Rs 128 crore allocation on a 90:10 funding ratio.
  • Funding flows have begun, with Rs 58.5 crore released as the first tranche and Rs 69.5 crore as the second tranche to support implementation.
  • Gupta sought a PMAY-U 2.0 urban housing project and faster MNRE and Power Ministry action on Pang-Kharnak and other renewables linked to a carbon-neutral vision, and Khattar assured full Government of India support.
