The ministry will review the UT’s requests under existing schemes.
Overview
- Kavinder Gupta briefed J.P. Nadda in New Delhi on preparatory work for Ladakh’s first medical college and a proposed nursing college in Leh, citing released funds, allotted land and filed proposals.
- He asked for expedited administrative approvals and post creation to make the colleges operational, and for early sanction of posts tied to upgrading District Hospital Kargil from 100 to 200 beds.
- Gupta sought a CGHS wellness centre in Leh for central employees and pensioners and urged full PMJAY coverage for Ladakh’s Scheduled Tribe population with a premium revision reflecting higher delivery costs.
- He proposed a specialised AYUSH hospital and requested consideration of an AIIMS campus in Leh to bolster tertiary care and medical research in the trans-Himalayan region.
- Nadda appreciated the UT administration’s progress and said the Health Ministry would examine the proposals and extend support within ongoing priorities, while in a separate meeting Gupta also discussed sports infrastructure with the Union sports minister.
