Ladakh Launches First UPSC Recruitment for 359 Gazetted Posts Under New Domicile and Reservation Norms

It includes a one-time five-year age relaxation to offset the post-2019 hiring freeze; the administration is seeking UPSC Single Window system access to streamline appointments.

The Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulation, 2025, notified on June 2, and the corresponding Ladakh Reservation Rules, notified on June 27, increased the reservation cap from 50% to 85%.

Overview

  • In the initial phase, 269 key positions—125 medical officers, 75 lecturers, 30 assistant directors and 34 engineering and registrar roles—have been referred to the UPSC for processing
  • The Civil Services Decentralization and Recruitment (Amendment) Regulation and the Grant of Domicile Certificate rules were notified in early June to formalize local eligibility criteria
  • Reservation quotas have been expanded to 85 percent under the Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulation, allocating 80 percent to Scheduled Tribes, 4 percent to Areas Adjoining the Line of Control, 1 percent to Scheduled Castes, 10 percent to Economically Weaker Sections and 5 percent unreserved
  • A one-time five-year age relaxation has been approved for 2025–26 recruitments alongside standard concessions of five years for SC/ST/ALC candidates and up to 15 years for persons with benchmark disabilities
  • The UT administration has requested inclusion in the UPSC Single Window e-Appointment System to streamline requisition and appointment processing for current and future recruitment rounds
