Overview
- The victim, identified as Rustam or Rustom Sheikh from Jharkhand, was recovered around 3 am from a narrow borewell at a farmhouse in Kukma near Bhuj.
- Authorities received the alert around 6:30–6:38 pm and conducted an eight to nine hour operation before extraction.
- Rescuers supplied oxygen and used a camera to monitor him, with assistance from Army personnel, borewell experts, the fire brigade and the NDRF, and extraction was completed using a hook-and-rope method.
- He was taken to GK General Hospital where he was declared dead, and police have registered an accidental-death case that they describe as prima facie suicide after an earlier argument over an expensive phone.
- Reports differ on whether he was 17 or 20, and his brother took the body to Jharkhand after the post-mortem.
