Labour Ministry Secures Pledge From Quick-Commerce Platforms to Drop 10-Minute Delivery Claims

Officials say the time-bound marketing created unsafe pressure on delivery workers.

Overview

  • Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya met Blinkit, Zepto, Zomato and Swiggy and urged the removal of rigid delivery-time commitments from platforms and promotional material.
  • Blinkit has already deleted the 10-minute promise and changed its principal tagline to "30,000+ products delivered at your doorstep."
  • The other companies assured the government they will strip delivery-time claims from brand advertisements and social channels in the coming days.
  • The shift follows late-December strikes by gig-worker unions calling to end ultra-fast models and improve safety and pay, and it was welcomed by union leaders and AAP MP Raghav Chadha.
  • The move coincides with draft labour rules issued on December 30 to extend social-security coverage to gig and platform workers, including eligibility thresholds of 90 days with one aggregator or 120 days across multiple.
