Labor Day Travel: NYC-Area Agencies Activate Holiday Schedules, Extra Trains and Lane-Closure Pauses

PATH’s Hoboken station closes overnight tonight through Tuesday, with shuttle and ferry alternatives during peak holiday volumes.

  • PATH will close Hoboken station from 11:59 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Tuesday for repair work, with free shuttles, added PATH service, NY Waterway ferries and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail available.
  • MTA subways and buses will operate on a Sunday schedule on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, with riders advised to check planned service changes by route and date.
  • Long Island Rail Road runs a normal Saturday schedule on Saturday and Sunday and a weekend/holiday schedule on Monday, with the Montauk Branch on a Sunday timetable and added Hamptons–Montauk service.
  • Metro-North adds early-getaway and extra trains Friday on the Hudson, Harlem and New Haven lines and cancels or adjusts select evening runs, with full details on posted timetables.
  • MTA Bridges & Tunnels will suspend daytime full-lane-closure maintenance from 1 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Tuesday, while the Port Authority pauses non-emergency bridge and tunnel work from 5 a.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday and projects about 4.2 million vehicles and roughly 2.4 million airport travelers, with Thursday, Friday and Monday expected to be busiest.
