LA28 Unveils First Competition Schedule With Dual-Venue Opening Ceremony

The revamp aims to optimize athlete schedules, reinforcing LA28’s community impact after PlayLA reached over one million enrollments.

Overview

  • Organizers released the inaugural competition lineup on July 14, 2025, exactly three years before the Games open on July 14, 2028.
  • The Opening Ceremony is set for 5 p.m. PDT on July 14, 2028, and will be split between the LA Memorial Coliseum and SoFi Stadium.
  • Track and field will launch the Games from July 15 to 24 at the Coliseum, while swimming will close out medal competition from July 22 to 30 at SoFi Stadium.
  • Pre-Games qualifiers for cricket, returning for the first time since 1900, along with soccer, water polo and other sports kick off on July 12 at venues including Pomona Fairgrounds, and flag football will debut July 15 to 22 at BMO Stadium.
  • PlayLA’s youth sports program has surpassed one million enrollments, and details on ticket lottery registration and volunteer opportunities will follow later this year.
