Overview
- Team-sport competitions in football, basketball, water polo, handball, cricket, hockey and rugby will begin July 12–13, two days before the opening ceremony.
- The opening ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. Pacific on July 14 at LA Memorial Coliseum and Inglewood Stadium.
- Athletics will occupy the first week of competition while swimming will headline the second week, reversing the traditional order of marquee events.
- Cricket will return to the Olympic programme for the first time since 1900 and flag football will make its debut at BMO Stadium from July 15 to 22.
- The Venice Beach triathlon will award the first medals on Day 1, July 29 will be the busiest medal day with 16 team-sport finals and 19 individual-event podiums, and the Games will close with a final swimming session at Inglewood Stadium on July 30.
