La Voix’s Past Makeup Job Linked to £40 Million Graff Heist Draws Fresh Attention

She says the booking was presented as a music video job that she discovered was a heist disguise only after arrests.

Overview

  • On Aug. 6, 2009, two men in prosthetics robbed Graff Diamonds on New Bond Street at gunpoint, stealing about £40 million in jewels.
  • Chris Dennis, now known as La Voix, says he spent around four hours applying ageing makeup, latex and wigs to the pair, who paid roughly £450 in cash.
  • After recognizing the men in news photos, Dennis and the Charles Fox studio contacted the Metropolitan Police and surrendered brushes, gowns, masks and banknotes for DNA testing.
  • Investigators traced the gang after getaway blunders, including a mobile phone and a shotgun left in an abandoned car, leading to convictions for ringleader Aman Kassaye, Craig Calderwood and three accomplices.
  • Much of the haul has not been publicly recovered, with earlier reporting indicating many pieces were likely broken up and resold, and the tale is circulating again as La Voix competes on Strictly Come Dancing.
