Overview

• The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office named the victim as 16-year-old Jose Cuevas of Harbor City in Los Angeles.
• CHP says Cuevas climbed over a concrete safety barrier on the elevated Pomona Street on-ramp to westbound I-80 and fell about 75 feet, dying at the scene.
• Officers responded around 3:25 a.m. to reports of a takeover with more than 100 vehicles blocking Pomona and Merchant streets near Interstate 80.
• Drone video and witness accounts show cars spinning donuts and large crowds gathered on and near the ramps during the illegal sideshow.
• A county supervisor is pushing for stronger deterrents, including a sideshow ordinance and possible cameras, license plate readers and roadway changes, as the investigation continues.
