La Salle Names Darris Nichols as New Head Coach

Nichols, the outgoing Radford coach, will succeed Fran Dunphy, marking a new chapter for La Salle basketball.

Darris Nichols, 38, has been hired as La Salle's next men's basketball head coach, succeeding Fran Dunphy, who is retiring at the end of the season.
Nichols compiled a 68-63 record over four seasons at Radford University, including two 20-win seasons, with his team finishing 20-13 this year.
Prior to Radford, Nichols served as an assistant coach at multiple universities, including Florida, Louisiana Tech, and West Virginia, where he also played as a standout point guard.
La Salle’s athletic director praised Nichols for his philosophy emphasizing team chemistry, player development, and a tough playing style, aligning with the program's vision.
Nichols faces challenges at La Salle, which has not had a winning season since 2015 and operates with fewer financial resources compared to top Atlantic 10 programs.
