Overview
- Rockim Prowell, 34, was charged with two counts of murder with a special-circumstance allegation of multiple murders, one count of attempted murder, two counts each of carjacking and second-degree burglary, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
- Prosecutors allege Prowell fatally shot 51-year-old Miguel Angel King on July 20, 2021, stole his car, and was tied to the killing by forensic evidence found in the vehicle; King’s remains were recovered in the Angeles National Forest the following month.
- Robert Gutierrez, 53, disappeared after meeting Prowell on Aug. 21, 2023, and although his body has not been found, investigators say they discovered Gutierrez’s car in Prowell’s garage during last week’s arrest.
- A 40-year-old man who met Prowell on Feb. 22, 2025, was allegedly bound, robbed, and beaten with a baseball bat before escaping; prosecutors say Prowell pursued him in a vehicle, striking him and breaking his leg.
- Prowell is being held on $2 million bail, his arraignment was delayed to Oct. 16, the case remains under investigation by LAPD and the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau, and prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty.
