La Mercè’s Daytime Circus Takes Over the Fòrum as Montjuïc Undergoes Works

Construction at Montjuïc has shifted the street-arts hub to a seafront site mapped with three main stages alongside family zones.

Overview

  • Barcelona moved the Mercè Arts de Carrer daytime program from Montjuïc to the Parc del Fòrum this year due to ongoing works at the castle.
  • The festival is running across six parks citywide in a decentralized format, including Estació del Nord, Aqüeducte, Fòrum, Trinitat, Port Olímpic and Jardins de Joan Maragall.
  • At the Fòrum, artistic director Jordi Querol organized three large-format stages with additional spaces guided by a “movement from the sea” concept.
  • More than 40 European artists from 12 companies are presenting about 17 shows through Sunday afternoon, with highlights including The Genesis, Vent d’Ouest and Wild.
  • The Fòrum setup targets families with contemporary circus, clowns and play areas, plus shade, food trucks and classic TMB buses on display for the operator’s centenary, drawing praise for access alongside nostalgia for Montjuïc’s setting.
