La Llorona Opens 32nd Season on Xochimilco’s Canals

The community production centers its new edition on water stewardship in Xochimilco.

Overview

  • The 2025 run, titled “La Llorona, el último latido del agua,” is scheduled on weekends from October 3 to November 16 with multiple nightly showtimes.
  • Tickets are available at the Embarcadero Cuemanco box office and on Ticketmaster for $550, with boarding exclusively from Embarcadero Cuemanco.
  • Audiences travel by trajinera about 45 minutes to the Laguna de Tlilac stage, so organizers advise arriving an hour early and dressing warmly.
  • The immersive staging blends theater, contemporary music and pre-Hispanic dance, featuring live ancestral instruments such as huehuetl, teponaxtle, turtle shells and water drum.
  • Created and sustained by local chinamperos, remeros, farmers and artists since 1993, this season is dedicated to Román Pastor Caputitla and opened following a pre-Hispanic permission ritual despite heavy rain.
