L.A. Hearing Probes Immigration Raids as House Democrats Unveil Misconduct Dashboard

Democrats and Los Angeles officials are building a public record of alleged abuses to drive accountability.

Overview

  • Mayor Karen Bass and Rep. Robert Garcia led a City–Congressional field hearing in Los Angeles on Monday to investigate alleged unlawful detentions during federal immigration operations.
  • House Oversight Democrats launched a public dashboard documenting 252 corroborated incidents of possible misconduct, including use of force, arrests and detentions, deportations, and actions at sensitive locations.
  • The Department of Homeland Security defended the enforcement campaign and said it will continue arrests, following the Supreme Court’s September decision that cleared the way for operations to resume.
  • DHS reports more than 7,100 arrests in the Los Angeles area since June 6, with many raids targeting workplaces such as car washes and disrupting surrounding businesses.
  • Witnesses described civil-rights concerns, including U.S. citizen Andrea Velez’s account of being slammed to the ground by an ICE officer before prosecutors dismissed a charge against her, as L.A. County declared a state of emergency over the raids’ community impact.
