Overview
- County officials began distributing Theora Care GPS smartwatches through the L.A. Found program at an Oct. 15 event in downtown Los Angeles.
- The watches provide geofencing alerts and an SOS button and pair with a caregiver’s smartphone for continuous location visibility.
- A few dozen smartwatches have been issued so far, and the devices are available at no cost to eligible families and caregivers.
- The rollout complements Project Lifesaver radio wristbands, with more than 1,800 bracelets distributed since 2018 and 29 documented reunions.
- The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says the technology sharply narrows search areas and helps address drowning risks for autistic individuals who wander.
