Overview
- L3Harris opened the new solid rocket motor facility in Camden, Arkansas, on Tuesday and said the site is built to double its GMLRS motor capacity.
- The company told industry press the Camden line can produce one motor about every nine minutes and is expected to cut manufacturing lead time by roughly half.
- The plant is part of a $216 million DPA Title III cooperative agreement L3Harris signed with the Department of Defense in 2023 to expand production of motors for GMLRS, Javelin and Stinger.
- L3Harris won a $250 million follow-on contract from Lockheed Martin on Oct. 12 to supply standard‑range GMLRS motors and plans to begin production at the new facility soon.
- The expansion follows L3Harris’s 2023 acquisition of Aerojet Rocketdyne and is one element of a multi‑state build‑out meant to boost U.S. resilience as Army demand for GMLRS rockets rises toward the tens of thousands per year.
