KZN Placed Under Yellow Level 4 Warning for Severe Thunderstorms

SAWS warns heavy downpours, hail or excessive lightning could flood and damage communities and infrastructure.

Overview

  • The South African Weather Service issued the Yellow Level 4 warning covering most of KwaZulu‑Natal for Sunday 1 November and warned of heavy downpours, large hail, excessive lightning and localized flooding.
  • Eastern Cape districts have stepped-up impact warnings, with Yellow Level 2 and Level 1 alerts for parts of Joe Gqabi, Chris Hani, OR Tambo and Alfred Nzo that signal possible property damage and disruption to power and roads.
  • A persistent heat wave is in place for parts of the Chris Hani and Alfred Nzo districts and on the Highveld, with forecasts showing very high daytime temperatures into Monday 2 November.
  • Extremely high veld‑fire danger remains across central and eastern Northern Cape and western parts of Free State and North West, raising wildfire risk where vegetation is dry and winds are strong.
  • Residents are advised to seek shelter from storms, avoid tall objects and flooded roads, stay hydrated and keep homes and property clear of fire hazards as overlapping heat, storm and fire warnings increase strain on local services.
