Kuwait Building Fire Claims 49 Lives, Mostly Indian Workers

Authorities investigate cause as Indian and Kuwaiti officials coordinate relief efforts for victims and their families.

The fire broke out early Wednesday in a six-story building housing nearly 200 foreign workers in Mangaf, southern Kuwait.
Most of the victims were Indian nationals, with many from Kerala, and several others injured are receiving treatment in local hospitals.
Kuwaiti authorities have detained the building owner and others for suspected negligence and code violations.
Indian government officials, including Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, are in Kuwait to oversee assistance and repatriation of remains.
Kuwait's Emir and Deputy Prime Minister have vowed thorough investigations and accountability for those responsible.
