Kushner in Israel for Gaza Plan Talks With Netanyahu

Israel has ruled out Turkish troops in any Gaza stabilization force.

Overview

  • Jared Kushner arrived Sunday and is expected to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday to discuss implementing the U.S. plan, Reuters reported, noting the meeting has not been formally announced.
  • President Trump’s 20-point plan launched in September produced an October 10 ceasefire and staged exchanges, with 20 living hostages released and the remains of 24 returned, while four deceased hostages’ remains are still held in Gaza.
  • The next phase envisions a multinational force taking over security in Gaza, but an Israeli spokesperson said there would be no Turkish boots on the ground even as U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack has said Turkey would participate.
  • Kushner and private envoy Steve Witkoff have been credited in reporting with helping secure the ceasefire and initial exchanges, and their visit is focused on what comes next.
  • The i Paper notes unresolved elements in the plan, including the makeup of a proposed Trump-led “Board of Peace” and which countries would join the stabilization force, while Gaza’s destruction and mass displacement intensify humanitarian needs.
