• On June 17, Damien Kurek formally resigned his Battle River–Crowfoot seat after a mandatory 30-day waiting period following the Canada Gazette posting.
• Battle River–Crowfoot is one of Canada’s safest Conservative ridings after Kurek secured 82.1 per cent of the vote in April’s general election.
• Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, having lost his Ottawa-area Carleton seat to Liberal Bruce Fanjoy, is expected to run in the upcoming byelection to return to Parliament.
• Under House of Commons rules, the Speaker must notify the chief electoral officer of the vacancy before the government can set a byelection date.
• Kurek has said he plans to seek the riding’s nomination again at the next general election after facilitating Poilievre’s bid.
