Overview

  • Japanese sculptor Kunimasa Aoki won the 2025 prize for his anamorphic terracotta sculpture ‘Realm of Living Things 19’, earning the €50,000 top award.
  • His work was praised for its mastery of the ancestral coil process and its exploration of the effects of gravity, time and pressure on raw clay.
  • The 10th edition of the prize drew over 4,500 submissions from 132 countries and was judged by a 12-member panel chaired by Sheila Loewe.
  • Nigerian artist Nifemi Marcus-Bello and India’s Studio Sumakshi Singh received special mentions for their pieces ‘TM Bench with Bowl’ and ‘Monument’.
  • All 30 shortlisted pieces remain on view at Madrid’s Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum with virtual access available via the Loewe Foundation’s digital platform The Room.
