Overview
- Kenny Kunene was re-sworn as a proportional-representation councillor on Friday, with City Speaker Margaret Arnolds presiding.
- PA leader Gayton McKenzie says a law-firm investigation cleared Kunene of wrongdoing linked to his July visit to murder-accused Katiso ‘KT’ Molefe’s home.
- McKenzie has given Mayor Dada Morero seven days to restore Kunene as Transport MMC and says he will resign as sports minister and pull the PA from coalitions, including the GNU, if this does not happen.
- The PA maintains the Transport MMC portfolio belongs to the party under the coalition deal and alleges Morero resisted reinstatement and even entertained offering the post to the EFF.
- Former DA MP and PA member Liam Jacobs resigned his council seat to make way for Kunene’s return, as McKenzie also highlighted service delivery failures such as prolonged water outages in Westbury, Newclare and Coronationville.
