Overview
- Operation Akhal in Kulgam district has stretched into its tenth day, becoming one of the longest-running anti-terror offensives in the Kashmir Valley.
- The Kulgam gunfight has claimed the lives of Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh and left ten soldiers wounded after more than 200 hours of sustained combat.
- On August 10, the Army’s White Knight Corps engaged two to three suspected Pakistani terrorists in a fresh encounter in Kishtwar’s Dul area after establishing contact during an intelligence-driven search.
- Hundreds of personnel from the Indian Army, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police and Special Operations Group have coordinated cordon-and-search missions supported by drones, Rudra helicopters and elite para commandos.
- These simultaneous operations follow earlier campaigns—Operation Mahadev and Operation Shiv Shakti—aimed at dismantling cross-border infiltration networks across Jammu and Kashmir’s rugged terrain.
