Overview
- On July 5 at the KIM secretariat in Bijang, Churachandpur district, Kuki Inpi Manipur and allied bodies adopted a resolution barring all ten Kuki-Zo MLAs from taking part in any new state government formation.
- KIM described the directive as the collective political will of the Kuki-Zo community, binding its legislators and affiliated organisations to defend ancestral land, culture, identity and political rights.
- The state assembly has been suspended under President’s Rule since February 13, leaving Manipur without an elected government and deepening the political stalemate.
- Ten Kuki-Zo MLAs—including seven from the BJP—have pressed since the May 2023 ethnic clashes for a separate administration or Union Territory status to secure constitutional safeguards.
- Security forces have recovered thousands of illicit weapons since February and most recently seized over 200 firearms on July 4, while New Delhi aims to resettle more than 60,000 displaced residents by December 2025.
