KuCoin Secures Austrian MiCA Authorization for EU-Wide Crypto Services

The approval advances KuCoin’s $2 billion Trust Project toward regulated expansion under Europe’s single rulebook.

Overview

  • KuCoin EU Exchange GmbH received authorization in Austria that allows it to offer trading, custody, and other digital-asset services across 29 EEA countries through MiCA passporting.
  • The move places KuCoin in the cohort of exchanges operating under MiCA, alongside platforms such as Coinbase, Kraken, and Bitstamp.
  • The company says EEA users, except those in Malta, will be routed to an upcoming MiCA-compliant platform, and new registrations on KuCoin Global will halt within the region.
  • KuCoin highlights security and compliance measures including SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001:2022, ISO 27701, and CCSS certifications, as well as third‑party proof‑of‑reserves audits.
  • The authorization follows KuCoin’s November registration with Australia’s financial intelligence agency AUSTRAC and is framed by CEO BC Wong as a defining step in its long-term compliance strategy.
