KSRTC Launches Cargo Service in Kerala

The move aims to diversify income by expanding the corporation’s logistics operations with five wet‑leased trucks used in the first phase.

Overview

  • Transport Minister C P John flagged off the service at Thiruvananthapuram Domestic Airport on Wednesday and the inaugural consignment of mobile phones was moved to Aluva.
  • KSRTC began operations with five trucks taken on a wet-lease and used a hired vehicle to carry the first one-tonne consignment flown in by Air India.
  • Officials said the cargo push follows studies of other state road transport corporations and is intended to boost non-ticket revenue that will be used to benefit KSRTC passengers.
  • KSRTC named Scorpion Cart Logistics and Cargo Cart Logistics as operational partners but has not released a full schedule, route map, pricing or detailed fleet plan.
  • The launch follows a wider trend of state transport corporations adding freight services to diversify revenue and could strengthen KSRTC’s finances and existing logistics network as it plans to grow to over 100 trucks.
