KSOU Convocation Confers 10,691 Degrees, Resolves Decade‑Old Backlogs

Leaders used the event to stress technology-driven, lifelong learning for NEP 2020 goals.

  • The ceremony in Mysuru was presided over by Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, with 10,691 degrees awarded from the 2021–22 to 2023–24 cycles, including 68 PhDs, 65 gold medals and 62 cash prizes.
  • Women outnumbered men among the recipients, with 6,704 women and 3,987 men receiving degrees.
  • Following approvals from the UGC, the Karnataka government and the Governor’s office, 30,515 of 64,102 candidates from the 2013–14 and 2014–15 batches have been declared eligible to receive degrees after a decade-long wait.
  • Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar said distance and open learning accounts for over one-tenth of higher-education enrollment in India and is vital to meeting the 50% GER target by 2035 under NEP 2020.
  • KSOU highlighted NAAC A+ accreditation, a No. 2 NIRF 2025 rank among open universities, 80 UGC-DEB recognised programmes and rapid enrollment growth, and it conferred honorary doctorates on eight individuals cleared by the Governor’s office.
