Overview
- An extreme weather forecast from KSNDMC signals cold wave-like conditions across North Interior Karnataka from December 19 to 23, with the most severe chill expected on December 20 and 21.
- Minimums are projected to run 4–6°C below normal across north and south interior districts, with Malnad also turning 4–6°C below normal and the coast 2–3°C below normal for parts of the period.
- Official observations already show a sharp nighttime drop, including an average minimum of 11.6°C in Bidar and pockets of 8–10°C reported in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Vijayapura, Raichur and Koppal.
- For Bengaluru, the IMD has indicated a possible low near 12.6°C, with short-term forecasts around 27°C by day and 14°C by night, persistent mist and relatively high humidity, and no local weather warnings.
- Authorities have advised protective measures for vulnerable people and for crops and livestock, as experts link the chill to La Niña conditions, a southward push of the Siberian High and nocturnal radiative cooling, while West Bengal remains closer to seasonal norms.
