Kruger National Park Closes Two Border Posts as Level 6 Storms Trigger Evacuations

Rising rivers are prompting SANParks to relocate guests in flood‑prone areas.

Overview

  • The Border Management Authority has temporarily closed the Pafuri and Giriyondo posts after heavy rain under a Level 6 warning.
  • SANParks reports rapidly rising levels on the De Laporte, N’watshitsaka, Crocodile and Sabie rivers, with short‑notice road closures possible between Satara, Tshokwane, Lower Sabie and Skukuza.
  • Precautionary evacuations include Shingwedzi, Sirheni and Bateleur camps, while Talamati, Mbiyamiti and Roodewaal guests are being relocated to Satara and Lower Sabie.
  • Access to Skukuza Airport is being routed via Kruger Gate or outside the park on the R40, with safe transfer plans via Shalati Railway Station and added Airlink resources.
  • Visitors are urged to revise travel plans, avoid flooded crossings, and may rebook or switch to tourism accommodation at no extra cost as rainfall totals topped 90 mm at Pafuri.
