Overview

  • The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) reduced Nagarjunasagar's minimum draw down level (MDDL) from 510 ft to 505 ft to ensure drinking water for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana until July 31.
  • KRMB authorized the release of 4 tmcft of water to Andhra Pradesh starting May 20 and 10.26 tmcft to Telangana starting May 5, based on indents submitted by both states.
  • Water releases from Nagarjunasagar began May 22 at a flow rate of 5,500 cusec via the Right Main Canal to meet Andhra Pradesh's allocation.
  • The board recommended that Telangana's water needs be met through Srisailam reservoir operations, with a preference for combining water releases with power generation.
  • Evaporation and other losses were factored into the reservoir's net water availability calculations, which were updated to reflect storage levels as of May 21.
