• Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu performed the Jala Harathi and released Krishna waters into the Paramasamudram tank in Kuppam on August 30.
• Officials said the flow travelled roughly 738 km from the Malyala lift point to the Kuppam branch through the expanded HNSS system.
• The 123‑km Kuppam Branch Canal, designed for about 215 cusecs, will fill 110 tanks, stabilize roughly 6,300 acres, and provide drinking water to about four lakh people across eight mandals.
• HNSS is a multi‑phase, high‑lift canal drawing up to 40 tmcft via a 554‑km main canal with 12 major lifts, ultimately targeting irrigation for about 6.03 lakh acres and drinking water for nearly 33 lakh people.
• This monsoon season, more than 400 tanks across 19 constituencies are slated to receive around 13 tmcft, though branch canals such as Madakasira, Hindupur and Penukonda are yet to be fed as Kuppam was prioritized; Naidu urged farmers to shift from paddy to cash crops and renewed his river‑linking push.
