Kretchnif-Sighet Rebbe, 75, Dies After Stroke as Mekubal Rav Altar Dovid Chaim Stern, 93, Passes Overnight

  • His leadership spanned Williamsburg, Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh, including a 2009 beis medrash in Brooklyn, a permanent return to Jerusalem in 2016, and the 2018 founding of the Nachlas Tzvi kollel and the Amud HaYomi learning program.
  • He was known for fiery late-night Shabbos tishen, a Pesach Sheini seder in Shabbos attire, publications including Raza D’emunah and Lehavos Eish, and a public stance opposing Zionism and participation in Israeli elections.
  • Separately, HaRav Altar Dovid Chaim Stern, a revered mekubal and noted ba’al chessed, died early Wednesday at Laniado Hospital in Netanya at 93, with a levaya set for 1:00 p.m. from his home on Sokolov Street in Bnei Brak to the Ponevezh beis kevaros.
