Overview
- The Kretchnif-Sighet Rebbe, HaRav Zeida Eliezer Zev Rosenbaum, died Tuesday at 75 after collapsing Friday in his Jerusalem beis medrash and suffering a massive stroke, despite widespread prayers and the addition of the name “Baruch.”
- He was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center, where he was sedated and ventilated before passing, with funeral arrangements still being finalized.
- His leadership spanned Williamsburg, Jerusalem and Beit Shemesh, including a 2009 beis medrash in Brooklyn, a permanent return to Jerusalem in 2016, and the 2018 founding of the Nachlas Tzvi kollel and the Amud HaYomi learning program.
- He was known for fiery late-night Shabbos tishen, a Pesach Sheini seder in Shabbos attire, publications including Raza D’emunah and Lehavos Eish, and a public stance opposing Zionism and participation in Israeli elections.
- Separately, HaRav Altar Dovid Chaim Stern, a revered mekubal and noted ba’al chessed, died early Wednesday at Laniado Hospital in Netanya at 93, with a levaya set for 1:00 p.m. from his home on Sokolov Street in Bnei Brak to the Ponevezh beis kevaros.
