Kremlin New Year Tree Felled in Moscow Region, Arrival Set for December 10

A 26-meter, century-old spruce from the village of Zemlino in the Ruza district was cut for installation in the Kremlin on December 10.

Overview

  • The spruce was chosen from dozens of candidates by an official commission for its crown shape, healthy needles and accessible location.
  • Organizers plan to meet the convoy at Red Square at 22:00 on December 10 before moving it to Cathedral Square for installation.
  • The tree is slated to adorn Cathedral Square through January 20, according to Kremlin facilities chief Evgeny Ganzen.
  • The felling doubled as a public celebration featuring Ded Moroz and Snegurochka, hot tea stations and children’s craft workshops.
  • Forester Mukhtar Magomedov received a new Niva for locating the tree, and a hockey stick made from last year’s Kremlin spruce signed by Viacheslav Fetisov was awarded in a quiz, reflecting the recycling tradition.
